Matadero Beach is situated near the city center, along the coastline of Santander. It is a sandy beach with a length of approximately 200 meters (656 feet) and is known for its picturesque surroundings and views of the Bay of Santander.
The beach derives its name from its historical association with a former slaughterhouse (matadero in Spanish) that used to be located in the vicinity. However, the slaughterhouse no longer exists, and the area has been transformed into a pleasant recreational space.
Playa del Matadero offers a range of amenities for visitors, including lifeguard services during the summer months, public restrooms, and easy accessibility. The beach is suitable for swimming, sunbathing, and taking leisurely walks along the shoreline.
Being close to the city center, Matadero Beach is easily accessible and is a popular spot for both locals and tourists. Its proximity to other attractions in Santander, such as the Magdalena Peninsula and the Paseo de Pereda, adds to its appeal.
Please note that my knowledge is based on information available up until September 2021, and there might have been changes or developments regarding Playa del Matadero since then.
