The Union Square in Iași, previously known as the Square of Joy, is a place of great historical importance. Here, in 1859, the first dance of the Union’s Hora took place, just before Colonel Alexandru Ioan Cuza won the elections unanimously in both Iași and Bucharest. Union Square is the intersection point of three major historical arteries of the city: Stefan cel Mare Boulevard (formerly Ulița Mare), Alexandru Lăpușneanu Street (formerly Ulița Sârbească), and Cuza Vodă Street (formerly Golia). In this area, there are important monuments such as the Statue of Alexandru Ioan Cuza, Grand Hotel Traian, Hotel Unirea, and Braunstein Palace. Every year, a Christmas tree is installed in Union Square, bringing a special charm to the place.
Iași
