The village of Jurilovca is a community founded by Lipovans at the end of the 19th century and has become an important center of fishing in the Danube Delta area. Today, it is the largest fishing community in the Delta and a tourist attraction. The specificity of this community is linked to its location on the shore of the Razim-Sinoe lagoon complex and the traditions of the Lipovans.
A notable characteristic of the community is its religious holiday calendar, celebrated according to the Julian calendar, which is 14 days behind the Gregorian calendar. The most important Lipovan religious holiday is the Feast of the Intercession of the Mother of God – Pokrov – on October 14th, which also marks Fish Day, a three-day celebration. The traditional Lipovan costume is mandatory in church and contributes to the uniqueness of the community.
The houses of the Lipovan Russians in Jurilovca are distinguished by their white and blue facades and roofs made of reeds. The Lipovan bathhouse is a traditional building separate from the dwelling and was almost a ritual before major holidays.
Jurilovca is not only a tourist destination but also a place with a rich cultural heritage and authentic traditions that attract visitors from around the world.
